The M151, a versatile Military Utility Tactical Truck (MUTT), was a staple during the Vietnam War, with over 100,000 produced between the late 1950s and 1980s. It served US forces worldwide during the Cold War, replacing the Jeep. Unlike typical ton, 4x4 utility trucks, the M151 introduced innovative features. It had independent suspension with coiled springs, enhancing agility, ride comfort, and speed. Instead of a separate frame, the MUTT integrated the frame and body into a single, stable unibody structure, providing more space and greater ground clearance. This rugged yet lightweight vehicle could navigate deep mud and jungles, and even be airlifted or parachuted in.
